What is the "dirty work"? I'm in the IT field so I'm kinda curious what you consider dirty work. Anyways, I'm the ONLY black person in my work center (sadly it's been like for the last 3yrs) and maaaaan, today I had to endure wack ass conversations, kesha, far east, and some other white pop groups. Shit ridiculous. I wish I could record them. In my mind I'm like "I better not hear nothing bout Obama!" I'm gonna flip just for the sake of flippin!

Besides myelf there is only one other black male in our entire corporate office. The rest are women, and even with all of us combined out of 400 employees there is only maybe 10 of us. I can easily say there is still quite a bit of subtle bullshit going on in mostly white offices.

Shit is pretty dope at my job. Then again, I live in California and work for a pretty prestigious tech company. Some cats do make comments about hows they expect me to be when they see as opposed to how I really am once they get to know me that could be taken as racist. But most of it it just ignorance as opposed to them trying to be malicious. **Shrugs**

That's kinda how it is at my job. I don't work directly with any other black males, but I have 2 black female co workers though. I don't ever get a really 'racist' vibe from the white folks. But I work with too many white chicks. So listening to their stupid ass conversations can be unbearable at times. These white broads will talk about tanning for hours!!

I'm sure they're getting paid a pretty penny for that "dirty work" so I wouldn't go getting all irate.

My department is pretty diverse. White, Black, Asian, Indian..we got a little bit of everything.

People be treatin the IT folk like their the personal assistant and i dont like it.

Yes they get paid, but they dont get the money/opportunity that upper management gets

Oh okay, I know what you mean. When I first started I used to do cabling and installs and it required going into the tiles. I remember some of the questions I got for hardware/software support and I'm like "you dumb, smart muthafuka".

Anyways, I got interviewed for this pretty high technical position recently. Just me in a room with some white guys. They are interviewing me and the question of my sense of humor comes up. I have a good sense of humor but I'm not going to Carlton up if you say some racist and then be like "aww I was just joking. No offense." In my mind I'm like why would my sense of humor even matter? I don't think I'm going to get that job. Also today as I'm chilling by myself listening to these ass clowns, I start to think about how the lack of diversity could lead to someone not being happy in a job. Especially if YOU are minority. In that aspect I don't think white ppl 'get it'.

That's exactly why they asked you too. They wanted to make sure if some really dumb racist shit were to slip out while telling a joke, you won't go to HR about it.

Anywayz, I.T ain't (and hasn't) been a bad place to be. It's not the least paying position in the office environment. There's maill room, food service, custodial, that might be paying less than the avg. help desk position - which seems like what that was.
