MINAJ RULES RAP: 25-year-old Queens, New York-raised rapper Nicki Minaj earns her first No. 1 on Rap Songs, as "Your Love" surges 4-1.

The song, which samples "No More 'I Love You's'," a No. 23 Hot 100 hit for Annie Lennox in 1995, is the first Rap Songs No. 1 by a sole lead female artist, and by a female rapper, since Lil' Kim led with "Magic Stick," featuring 50 Cent, for five weeks beginning June 14, 2003.

Minaj is the first female artist unaccompanied by any other act to top Rap Songs since "Work It" by Missy Elliott spent 12 weeks at No. 1 beginning Nov. 2, 2002.

Nicki Minaj = 1, #1 Rap single

Lil Kim = 8, #1 Rap singles

Give her props but stop the nonsense, she about 7 #1 singles short of seeing Kim.

That "Your Love" song is garbage. Nicki has yet to prove that she can hold up a song all by herself. This is not hate, this is honest criticism. All her best verses have been on features and I just don't see her album doing well tbh.

Kim should thank biggie,50, and her deepthroat for that success, not actual musical talent.

Let's not today, rapmastermind. Kim has never and will never hit #1 solo. She needs more assist than the handicapped kids.

Nicki is popular because she has butt implants... Niggas want to fuck her so she is hot right now.

that is all

What does that have to do with the radio play and downloads generated to make this song #1?

when somebody can run rap without a album rap lost

Nicki Minaj doesn't run rap. Drake doesn't run rap, YM doesn't run rap. Then run the pop radio stations masquerading as hip hop stations. Think about this, will ALL of the promotion and marketing around him, Drake's album isn't gonna go plat anytime soon. TML was an underwhelming album and it proved even with the greatest hype in the world, you still need good music to sell records. And btw, Nicki is not touching TML's sales

I don't like Kim or Minaj, but why would anyone want to take credit for writing Your Love?

That's some hot garbage right there.

I actually think TML was a goodass album (and critics collectively agree, which is irrelevant, I know) so it sucks that it isn't doing the numbers it had the potential to. The question these days is: What really sells an album? Sales are so shitty now that most people need a mix of everything to sell. Music videos mostly impact singles now, unless they're really really big (Single Ladies, Bad Romance). A hit song alone doesn't work these days (see Flo Rida). I think a couple big hits is one of factors Drake is missing that'll give his album the longevity it needs to do huge overall numbers, though. Find Your Love is gonna be a huge crossover hit, but other than that...I don't see anything else.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Drake fan. Maybe if TML was the first Drake album I had ever heard I would be impressed, but anyone who listened to him pre-SFG can tell you that he has become a lot less lyrical. When you don't even have the best verse on your own album (Jay-Z), and you get outshined by a rapper who isn't even lyrical (Jeezy), that lets you know you shoulda done a lot better.
