I like this

"we take all we want from black culture but will we show up for black lives?"

But the one thing the American dream fails to mention

Is I was many steps ahead to begin with

My skin matches the hero, likeness, the image

America feels safe with my music in their systems

And it's suited me perfect, the role, I've fulfilled it

And if I'm the hero, you know who gets cast as the villain

White supremacy isn't just a white dude in Idaho

White supremacy protects the privilege I hold

White supremacy is the soil, the foundation, the cement and the flag that flies outside of my home

White supremacy is our country's lineage, designed for us to be indifferent

My success is the product of the same system that let off Darren Wilson guilty

when has Eminem ever spit a verse like this

This white boy about to win a Grammy for this shit, and all he's doing is talking about white privileges, and the racial inequalities of this country..

SMH..

It's sad because BLACK rappers been making songs with the same subject and content for years and they don't even get noticed,

but when a white boy does it,

they act like its ground breaking..

That's what stops me from listening to his music (besides the fact that he's not a good rapper to me...ryan lewis can make a damn beat tho that's for sure). The reaction of non rap fans of his that are gonna hear this and act like he the only one with substance. I don't think macklemore is disingenuous about his white privilege or using it to be the cool white guy at the black party. But enough is enough. Just rap, bruh, damn.

Just listened..

I never thought I'd say this in a million years,

but the song is actually dope..

I know this is the reason,

and some posters will judge the song without listening to it (I'm guilty of this too sometimes),

but I think we should all listen to it and have a real discussion on the topic..

I actually read the lyrics to all 4 verses and he touches on some shit that a lot of white people fight against but for some reason I can't bring myself to actually listen to it. Hearing Macklemore rap just annoys the fuck out of me

eh its cool... but ya niggas ain't shit.

ya complain when wht folks play dumb, and ya complain when wht folks acknowledge racism.
