Nelly has his own lane

Weezy and Kanye all have a unique style

Comparing nelly w/ other is like apples and watermelons--bad comparision

I wouldn't call Nelly the father of anything but his kids...BUT he did open the doors for rappers to think outside the box and do other genres of music. I'm not saying he was the 1st one to do it but he was the 1st one to do it with that much success. Even though it was 1 song, it did a lot.

i would say Andre 3000 had a bigger impact on this generation of rappers than Nelly. "the love below"(also from '03) was one of the most experimental hip hop albums ever and it was a commercial and critical success. after that these hipster/nerd rappers that it was ok to be "different". plus his sense of style opened the door to what a lot of this generation is doing as far as style as well.

If anything, Nelly fathered almost everything y'all hate about hip-hop today. He kicked down the doors for it being cool to not know how to rap again.

I hope thats not what he saying. Nelly can rap, but niggas hated on him cuz he blew up and outreached us & got pop. But that's also how he lost his popularity too. But anyways, he always came correct spitting. It may be a couple of lines you can poke at and say it was lame but overall he was decent.

cee-lo was always a singer, and 'love below' was a much more emotional album than 'perfect imperfections'. cee-lo was still talking about street shit, dre made an album about falling in out of love. now artist like kanye, cudi and drake talk about emotions and it's ok.

The problem is that nobody cares about Nelly anymore,he has no buzz, he sucks now and cant produce a hit single, and his sound is outdated.

But anyways, the threadstarter is right about nelly fathering some of today's music...but it's the Plies and the Gucci Mane's, not Jay, Kudi, Kanye, ect. Like I said, Nelly made it cool to not be able to rap again. Who else you think put Chingy, J-Kwon, ect on the map?
