I think Talib is ill my only issue with him is after all this time he still doesnt ride beats well. Like he trys to fit too many words in his bars and shit comes off forced and akward. I think his beat selection is solid though. But yea the problem with so many of these lyricists that internet bloggers are in love with is that their raps are more like spoken word as opposed to music. Yes, they're nice on the mic and can spit. But when I get in my car, go to the bar, club, or just wanna hear music at home I want to be entertained, music is entertainment and alot of backpackers cant find that happy medium between stayin lyrical and still being entertaining.

You pretty much said everything i feel, that's what makes Kanye so dope to me; he is well rounded. A truly dope artist should be able can't be categorize and put into a box, there is nothing wrong about rapping about bitches, partying, money,etc too if you do it creatively or balance it out with other content. I'm surprised Mos Def isn't bigger than he is, because he has proven that he can show versatility (Oh No, Ms. Fat Booty,etc).

I agree with that, but on the other hand hiphop heads and purist shouldnt be mad when people want to listen to music that entertain them and have fun. I would say most people listen to music for fun, not a message so you can't knock people for not supporting backpack rap.

It goes both ways. Backpack rap fans think they are superior and dudes who like gangsta/trap/mainstream rap think that backpack rap is boring. I like what Mos Def said about it. He said that there is enough room for all different types of rap music. And I believe that too.

Funny thing is Talib clearly does it on purpose. I just don't like the way he flows. Monch does the same thing from sometimes but it just sounds so much doper.

Lupe is a "Backpacker" and his flow is impeccable.... Everybody is not going to be hot in every subject.

But i will say if Wale, Kid Cudi and Charles Hamilton is considered to be backpacker they step out the box wayyyyy more than Trap/club/mainstreim Hip Hop. I mean there's a time and a place for everything and i have to say i'm tired of hearing about Nuvo and some chick on a Stripper Pole.

Lupe,Wale,Cudi,etc are not backpackers. Backpackers are Murs, Blu,Immortal Techniue,Ill Bill.
