Token-white rappers were the craze in 2011, 5-6 of them got major label deals this year and hybrids like Ke$ha rose in popularity.
Regardless about what the fans think I pay attention to what these labels do because believe it or not they set the trends and the new trend is token-whites or mulattos....middle-class, suburban frat-rappers may be the new prototype Mc's for the future.
These Caucasion artists get a lot of undeserved attention by fans and media who like to overhype them based on their color....for example every day their is a white-bitch-mob thread on the front-page of the 3 major HipHop website forums (AHH,SoHH,Boxden") HipHop magazine publications seem obsessed with them or maybe just use them to sell copies. Brick-Squad (Gucci, Wacka) have embraced the Cracka-rappers 100%.
Sadly many Black folks will go out of their way to listen to these white rappers just based on the novelty factor while whites automatically listen to them because they share the same culture as them and they see comfort and familiarity in that.
The quest for the new Great-White-Hype is in motion so here on AHH you will see more and more white-rapper threads when the whites are not making Emenim/G-Unit/Ross threads, you will hear more white rappers on the radio, and more white rappers getting magazine spreads and web attention.
Your Lupe record will have Skylar Grey on it and your JayZ album will have a Europeon on it, your Wayne and Kanye will continue to mirror whites with their fashion and Drake and J. Cole will continue to make their white mothers proud while Emenim and Mac Miller continue their chart success.
Integration, assimilation...gentrification doesn't happen overnight, it's a slow process and HipHops version will be hastened by the complacency and passivity of members of the culture who lack the foresight and insight to see the white-washing of another indigenous African-American cultural art form.
