All the old school MCs from the early 80s that never made albums.
I was actually thinking about this last night. I met Grandmaster Caz about 10 years ago at a Zulu Nation Anniversary Party. I got to chop it up with him for a good 20 minutes. He said that when Cold Crush was doing shows in Harlem and The Bronx he didn't understand that the rappers and groups that were making 12" singles were reaching the whole nation off one song. Groups like Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 and Kurtis Blow were performing on Soul Train because they had a record out, or several records out. Kurtis Blow made several albums between 1980-1984.
Caz said that people were telling him to go to the studio and make a record but he didn't understand what was going on outside of the Bronx so he and his crew were doing 3 shows per night and getting paid like that. But now that its 30 years later the only thing they have to show for it is some cassette tapes of their shows that sound like they were recorded over the telephone.
