if its essential for you then how can you rate eminem as the best rapper? his content is shit, just covered up with a good flow and delivery, and usually good or decent beats. You probably think icp is a great group as well since them and eminem rap about the same horrorcore/shock value lyrics

excuse her memory-lapse. the coke has effected her in many ways

Not that important, because content and introspective are relative terms to the listeners. Different people relate to different shit for different reasons!

Fair enough. Can respect this.

I want something that is timeless and can play when I am a 50 year old man. So its the best to come up with something I can relate to and most likely has to be deep.

Content is super important to me, but introspective does not have to be there, meaning you don't have to tell your life story, just good meaningful interpretations will do.

It depends on what they are being introspective about

Just the usual shit they experienced poverty, family, their kid's, relationships, coming from a tough backround welfare/no father.

Self reflection is a pointless aspect of a song. You can just as easily convey this with your content without seeming like you are actually making one of "those" records. Probably why I hate most of eminems catalog. His content is the worst kind and he has not other filter for his introspective rhymes.

Yeah but almost every Artist that makes Introspective records does it from a self reflection perspective it's not just Eminem it's everyone pretty much.

You basically saying if Em makes a song expressing his love for his daughter he shouldn't say her name in the song cos that is too 'self reflection' but that makes no sene for example to not mention her name and get personal
.

Or it's like saying when 2pac and Eminem made records about growing up poor they shouldn't go into details and mention aspects like welfare, their father not being around cos that is too 'self reflective' but what is the point if you not gonna tell the whole story?

It really depends on how you bring it. If its something you don't do all the time, I would respect and appreciate it when its done. If you're the type to make a living off it, then it really doesn't matter. Take LL's 'The Truth" for instance: You don't have to talk about it all the time but when its done, it's something different and keeps you interested.

I gotten sort of tired of hip hop's introspection, I tend to like introspection more when it is crafted in a way when it is not so personal but still full of feeling. I feel sometimes introspection in the form of straight story telling is really cheesy. I think Eminem actually did a good job of doing those songs and making others think he is speaking to or for them.

With most hip hop artist their is a disconnect between relating to the masses. More than not, these rappers have very small minded perspectives of their situations and it makes me lose interest fairly quickly.

Most of my writing is introspect. I think most artists make a record like that so they can connect with certain people. I much more enjoy a song I can try and pick apart though, being upfront and complaining about your problems and life is more interesting as a story or a poem. On the contrary, according to The Mighty Mos Def, hip hop is about rythme and flow, not just lyrical content!
