I've seen many people saying he is a gimmick but I've seen no one mentioning Joey Badass father who influenced him in liking 90's rap music. Just an observation

Slept on post..read the same thing in an article. It's not a "gimmick". Some of ya'll misunderstanding of a gimmick really is.

I have an obsession with 60's soul and psychedelia is that a bad thing?

That's the shit he's into at the moment so naturally it reflects in his music ..... If that's a "gimmick" it sure as hell ain't a smart one since no '90s sounding boom bap shit is selling right now ..

I think having a 90s feel isnt a bad gimmick to begin with. Having a gimmick does not = being a bad thing. Every damn rapper that ever existed has one. Thats the point.

A gimmick is traditionally a wrestling term to insinuate a character you become that's not you in real life. In the music industry however a gimmick imo is reflections of what influences you the most and comes across your music. Sorta an indirect cross off of stereotypes. In that case the gimmick is used solely as the selling point for their main fanbase. Just business.

Old school rappers are losing their edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered nineties.

i wouldn't even say he has a 90's obsession or a 90's sound even though he's clearly influenced by it. what he has is a classic new york sound - we're just not used to hearing it on the airwaves anymore.

you'd think as much as IC loves talkin bout 90s rap and praying for it to come back, this nigga would get mad love

goes to show you niggas come on here just to spew hate

Can anyone put me on to his best mixtapes?...honestly never listened to dude before Summer Knights...and that shits dope
