While you are at work you are a representative for that company, but I don't and never have ascribed to that thinking, in my opinion this isn't a political statement as much as a broad opinion. "What does make America great?" being able to express your opinion and challenge the status quo and that is what is being taken from her, bringing us back to America never was great and that is proving her argument/statement the hat was saying. The way she is being threatened and challenge is nailing her point home.

I can support her view as it has been mine for years.

But we as Black people have to do more than be about slogans and demonstrations. The hat drew attention, but it's not telling a new story nor suggesting a new solution. it's rehashing the same narrative that Conservatives are going to respond to in the usual manner, and Liberals are going to use to continually snow Black people with false promises and ambiguous language. "America has never been great" will be used to talk about immigrants, lgbt, women, people of color, minorities, and everyone BUT Black people. The person who coined the phrase.

He shirt does not imply the type of comparison you're trying to make. Sure, the metrics and requirements for what is considered "great" is subjective and therefore debatable. So you and anyone else who disagrees with the sentiment of her shirt are free to disagree and provide counterarguments. However, the argument you're providing now is weak. One could say that race relations in this country in the 1950s was great because you could undoubtedly go to other places in the world where it was much worse. The fact is that something is not good just because it's better than every other alternative.

Also, I don't even think its fair to say that America is great if you compare it to other nations. I'm sure if you look at the Roman empire, you could probably find places where that empire lived up to its ideals far more than the US has. On top of that, the US has been around for less than three hundred years. That doesn't compare at all to some of the past empires, so it's premature to even put it in that category.

When African descent say it we were enslaved for almost a hundred years of it's creation when it's values always say All Men are equal...well when does that come into play...after the civil war? Civil Rights? When?

Try being black someplace else ( including africa) then say America is not great. Yes it took kemet a long time to reach it's height but comparatively the height of kemet pales in comparison to america which i believe still has not reached it's height. Kemet, rome Persia etc etc etc all the great ancient empires and nations were basically dictatorship so intrinsically they were flawed and inferior societies compared to what we have now
