Hip Hop age limit?

beleive it or not I listen to all his shit. got all but 2 albums he made. crazy part is that $hort is one of the rappers whose latest album gets better each time to me. $hort is a bad example to use for me because I never stopped listening to his music and he's one of the few rappers whose album I'm gonna cop based strictly on his name alone and know exactly what I'm gonna get each time. When I want to hear something from another lane I listen to a different artist. When I wanna listen to some pimp shit I know $hort got my back. Some people want their artists to change with age. I just want them to stay consistent. It's when they try to switch up that throws me off. no need to switch because there is always someone else to check for if I want something different. Basically I want KRS to keep talking about smashing wack MC, Cube to keep talking that street knowledge, Red to keep spittin ill metas and $hort to keep talking about pimpin. Fuck switchin lanes

Well, I'm not exactly talking about the music in that way, I'm also talking about their real life persona. Someone like Ice Cube has grown up with the time, someone like Scarface has grown up with the time in their music and in reality but they still keep their fanbase and satisfy them with their releases. Too $hort is obviously doing what he does best but his retirement was a rather wise decision back in 96 cause he always offers the same thing. I'm not saying he should dump the pimp shit entirely cause that's what made him Too $hort in the first place, but a bit more variety and 'grown up' material. Instead he has taken 5 steps backwards by stopping with doing the number of positive songs he had in his albums before. It's not a surprise that his most popular songs seem to be "The Ghetto", "Life is Too Short", "Gettin' It" etc. He was just good at doing it and only limited his talent by sticking to pimp raps. I mean how many songs is he gonna make with "bitch" in the title? A majority of his albums got it in some ways and I do realize it's sort of a catchphrase for him and his favorite word but isn't it a little excessive?

I mean most people stopped messing with Spice 1 after four or so albums cause he was completely stuck in talking about murder for an entire album despite his rapping skills. That's what excess can do.

I ain't from America so everything that's obvious to others may not be something I know or have heard about. But yeah, this 84 year old has his place in my memory and it's interesting he's half Swedish.

i thought PLAYBOY was international enough to know who Hef is. Sorta how we in America know who Elton John is and who the Beatles are.

Anyway, i hear what you're saying. Ironically tho, my favorite $hort song is Blow the Whistle...and that aint even about pimpin. Sometimes I'm cool with watching the same story as long as it's told differently. It doesn't have to switch from talking about apples to talking about pizza. Talk about them same apples, but tell me about green ones this time or how to turn those apples into apple sauce. I'm cool with my legends doing that. $hort Dog probably not one to do that much, but Cube is good for that. KRS, Red and Quik too. If Red switched up and started rappin like Nas I wouldn't want that shit. If I want Nas music, then I'll listen to Nas. If I want some pussy songs, I'm listening to $hort. Remember when Andre 3000 used to actually spit? That's the Dre I was a fan of. When he switched up and made that 'mature/growth' music on That Love Below shit, he lost me.

Hi, I'm part of the aforementioned youth and would like to know how this burden falls squarely upon the old heads shoulders. I thought if you appreciated the culture enough and stopped being a casual listening faggot that believes hip hop automatically belongs to you, you would have decency to do research and use common sense to establish what is and what isn't hip hop.

You can look at thread after thread on here and 9 times outta 10 it's a young fan coming out the blue to start a hate thread for the sole purpose of shitting on OG. I don't see too many threads started by old heads just to diss. We be trying to mentor young fans but it's the ultra-arrogant young fan that aint feeling that.
