Fuck, listened to both and still dont know who to pick

Ones a story about a 12 year old prostitute getting killed

And the others about hip hop

Decisions decisions

Imma sleep on it

"A damn shame, the girl can hardly spell her name"

Pac's story was real as fuck and very hard hitting, it makes me think about all the lost children in the world and how sad it is that some get no love.

Why does it feel like regardless of which one I pick it's not adequate?

Both songs covered (at the time they came out) topics that don't get covered much in hip-hop.

Brenda is a raw unflinching punch to the gut and heart, and the saddest thing about it is that there's a million Brenda's out there. And yeah it was targeted to the Black population of the US, but it could apply to damn near any one in the world. And the greatest stories are universal and eternal, right?

IUTLH though, that shit is composed masterfully. Even without the subtle notes to rap's history, it's still a good story about a dude missing a chick who done changed when she starting growing up and getting money. But once Common says her name was hiphop...

wee-bey-gif

That immediately made it a song you had to rewind IMMEDIATELY to make sure first you weren't bugging that Common said what he said, and then rewind again to listen to the song AGAIN to try and catch all the references. And that's also a big part of what makes a great story and great art; something that has multiple meanings and could be reviewed multiple times to get more references and ideas.

Fuck this is tough.
