Gears of War 3 Beta

As for the heavies, there's the One-Shot, which the team refers to as its elephant gun. The One-Shot's a sniper rifle that fires explosive shells. Yeah. The scoped sites and weight make it tricky to move around quickly, but it will turn a foe into mist with no questions asked if you manage to hit them. Then there's the Digger, which sends out an odd little projectile that burrows into the ground and chews its way under cover before exploding (or taking the left turn at Albuquerque). Again, it's relatively stately when it comes to firing, meaning that it's easy to avoid, but it ensures that enemy players have to keep moving, too.

Respawning now gives you a chance to check out a map of the entire arena, including the locations of weapon drops.

Finally, the beta promises new modes, showcasing three of the final game's six match types. You won't be able to play the brilliant new Beast offering, which sneakily inverts Horde to see you launching Locust attacks on AI Cogs, but instead you'll be able to try out the new Team Deathmatch - in a Gears twist, both sides gets 15 respawns to work through each round, after which the game reverts to the classic last man standing set-up - alongside King of the Hill, which tweaks Annex from Gears 2 so that you can control areas without having to then stay within the glowing radius, and Capture the Leader, a new CTF reimagining which tasks you with tracking down the enemy side's captain and holding them as a meat-shield for a set amount of time. In a smart bit of detailing, the captain makes up for their vulnerability with an ability to see through map geometry and thus direct their team a bit better. It's classic Gears checks and balances all round, in other words.

On top of all that, the beta will be piling on the unlockables, meaning that even a five minute session will result in a shower of toast as you collect ribbons, grind for experience, and get closer to earning special characters and weapon models. One of each, incidentally - Cole in his Thrashball outfit, and a golden Retro Lancer - can only be unlocked in the full-game by first collecting them in the beta.

Best of all, though – better, arguably, than all the new maps, modes, and weapons Epic could cook up – is what's going on behind the scenes. Gears 3 sees its multiplayer content moving to dedicated servers – an expensive shift that suggests just how seriously Epic's taking the matter of host advantage and lag. That alone should give fans of Escalation and Mansion a reason to check out this short taster of the final game. That alone should give newcomers and veterans alike justification to pick up the controller and try out this brutal, strangely thoughtful, meat-grinder for themselves.

Gears of War 3 is due to be released 20/09/2011 on Xbox 360.

Nope, there's gonna be only ways to get in. That's why I didn't fall for the "Buy Bulletstorm" gimmick, even though it's a good game - too short a campaign and a weak multiplayer.

Other Ways?? Solid, because I was really about to breakdown and buy that shit. But what are the other ways though like invite only I'm assuming?

Nigga, I don't know...they just said other ways, lol.

They probably will release beta keys via websites, but buying Epic Edition of Bulletstorm is the only "guaranteed" way to get in. If you don't have luck with getting beta keys from websites, then you might as well buy it.

Go to Productreviews.net They just posted a story about Epic Exec Rod Ferguson who tweeted saying yes there will be other ways to obtain a beta key for Gears 3, they just haven't said how or when yet. But he also said for the most content and fastest access to the Gears 3 Beta, you should buy bulletstorm for that official beta key.

So there will be options, they just won't say just yet, also for best results buy bulletstorm....Fuck that I'll wait.

See if Gears or Epic have a Facebook page and "Like" it. Or follow them on Twitter. That's how I usually get most codes for PS3 stuff. also, sign up for stupid shit that they put out, even if you never take part, they usually reward you with redeemable codes. Also, register with Gamespot (not Gamestop), they sometimes give away codes to registered members.

I just called gamestop, and every single copy of the epic edition is sold out right now. But they said that the eic edition wasn't just limited to people who preordered Bulletstorm, so once new shipments come in anyone can buy a copy of the epic edition and get a beta code. But I think I'm gonna try looking them up on facebook and go that route.

Buying Bulletstorm isn't the only door to the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta - all public can play from 25th April to 15th May.

Bulletstorm: Epic Edition owners can, however, start early and play from 18th to 24th April.

Participating in the Gears of War 3 multiplayer beta can unlock content within the full game. Complete one beta match and you'll get a Beta Tester Medal; complete 50 and you'll unlock the Thrashball Cole character, who'll transfer to the full game when you complete 10 games with him; complete 90 matches and receive the Gold-Plated Retro Lancer, which will transfer to the full game after scoring 100 kills.

A Flaming Hammerburst weapon goes to anyone playing a match by Sunday, 24th April; a Flaming Lancer goes to anyone finishing a match during the week of 25th April; a Flaming Sawed-Off Shotgun goes to anyone finishing a match during the week of 2nd May; and a Flaming Gnasher Shotgun goes to anyone finishing a match during the week of 9th May.

Over the course of the Gears of War 3 beta, four maps and three modes will be rolled out. Maps Old Town and Trenches will be included.

What's more, the Gears of War 3 beta will take place on the game's vaunted dedicated servers.

Eurogamer's Christian Donlan played the Gears of War 3 beta late last month.

Gears of War 3 can be pre-ordered now in three versions: Standard, Limited (£59.99) and Epic (£99.99).

That's some bullshit!! I should've just been patient and waited for the official announcement. I could've got the beta and didn't even have to buy Bulletstorm. All that just to play the beta a week earlier then everyone else??? Oh well bulletstorm is still pretty badass so I wouldn't consider it a total waste.
