You can thank the older generation of rappers that used their record sales to brag. You know you're Snoop's, Dre's, Pac's, Big's, Jay etc. They were doing it since the 90's, and now the younger generation see's it and do the same. 50 done took it and ran with it like no one before him though.

Also rock fans, country fans dont care about what artist is selling what. Like rap fans are.

to be fair, rap is a braggadacio form of music, so if an artists occasionally drops a line in a song about his sales, thats to be expected i guess.

i guess my point is: make music. being a rapper doesnt make you a businessman any more than working at Macy's makes you a model.

is this just what you believe or do you have proof to back these claims up? Rap is not the only genre in which its artists come from hard backgrounds. many white musicians are high school dropouts or may come from poverty.

so if you are trying to say that labels get over on poor, under-educated black artists and not whites, i would have to disagree.

No my friend.Country music for example is basically made by whites for whites so faith hill or tim mcgraw can come out with an album and have no marketing but their 20 million fans will suport it regardless.If they have a hit it would sell more.

On the other hand raekwon or 50 cent would have to market themselves and build a tremendous buzz to sell 4,5 million records.

You still have yet to explain how an artists talking about how many units their label shipped to Best Buy constitutes as "marketing".
