Does suggesting Jay-Z retire show how ignorant rap fans can be?

I agree with this.

The worst albums in Jay's catalog are plagued by him explaining why he should be highly regarded, trying to discredit the whole "no country for old men" movement in Hip Hop, and competing with youngin's that aren't even up to par anyway. American Gangster is highly regarded because it's Jay Z being Jay Z without having to "remind us" through song of what he's accomplished. It wasn't trendy and he wasn't trying to dictate what shouldn't be trendy. The Black Album worked because in spite of him having a few songs saying "why he should be #1", he spent a good portion of the album proving it. Aside from those two albums, Jay Z's post Blueprint albums have all managed to showcase Jay's insecurities as an MC.

So that it? Do you know how Many features this man has done? It's safe to assume that jay's fanbase is pretty damn solid right? I mean this nigga headlines sold-out rock concerts in London correct? The same guy that interviews with Warren Buffet and shares the Forbes cover with? You mean to tell me his strategy is to tap into Lil wayne and Drake's fanbase? Is if fans are only loyal to one artist? As if his own fanbase has existed before these nigga even came on the scene. Is this niggas ticket sell hurting because of young money?

Has Jay created a dance or is he doing the Dougie on worldstar? Is the nigga skateboarding and getting tattoos? Is he throwing money in the strip clubs? Is he like look at my cartoon diamond chain? Is this nigga rapping with Lil b and odd future?

What are artist intentions when they want a Jay-z feature? Why did Wayne wanna do Mr. Carter?

I think most of the people who are young and visit this board just dont get it. The brother is basically the President of Hip Hop. Retire for what? He is what 40 or so? He is still doing it. Another poster metioned him telling the game what to wear, drink, buy, etc.....

Far as reaching another group..... Well that other group is coming to him. As far as subject matter? Have you REALLY listened to what the brother speaks on? He actually has substance, yes some of it is over the average consumers head. Does he talk about cars? selling drugs? women? Money? Yes, but not sure why he wouldnt. To a lesser extent most of us on the board can talk about the same things to a lesser more inexpensive language lol.

If you dont like his music then cool, say that. All the foolish arguments show either age or mentality. Both may be sub par

I would argue attacking a posters age or intellect concerning any rapper is, a tactic used by those of inferior intellect. I am oldest enough and wise enough to realize any person should do what they love to do for as long as they can. But to hand out titles\accolades of president, having some extensive catalog of substance based music can only be one of two things. Dick Riding or ignorance.

I already said that he has a solid fanbase but its obvious hes tryin to keep up with the Joneses. What 40 year old man has "Ham" in his vocabulary? (Even tho i think he KILLED his verse} And if hes so content with his fanbase why does he have to give them a "Reminder"? Shouldnt he know that they know his accomplishments since indeed thats his FAN base?. Or is he tryin to remind these young bucks who he is?

Jayz since becoming a major recording artist has pandered to a Pop Audience while, trying to maintain a Hip Hop (hood image). It's worked since day one and continues to work.

I would hope that who ever you are a fan of today you would want them to continue and have success Jay has had/have. Every other genre can do it but not hiphop.

I've been to a Prince concert and there's generations there. Grandmother, mother, daughter, granddaughter etc. We don't want this for hip-hop? Cause I've been to a Jay-z concert and that's what he's doing for hiphop. Next lil Wayne can do it. Then drake. Then Lil B and so on and so forth.

We pray for our biggest artist to fail or just shut the fuck up and sit down. We push our legends out. We fuck up hiphop then blame the media, the industry and the white man.

Comparing prince to Jayz is just sickening on so many levels. . Not to mention there are songs that prince doesn't and will not perform because of the content. That is growth. Listening to this dude rhyme about Coke in 88 and the rest of the BS he is spitting is, suitable for grandmothers, mothers,daughters and generations of folks? Seriously?

I know that but my whole point is Jay-Z shouldnt have to PANDER to anyone because he has a solid fanbase. And if he would recognize that his music will get better because it wouldnt sound like an EFFORT it would just be what it is.

Agreed but I don't think you can expect a leopard to change it's spots. For those that don't care about who is wife is, how much dough he has, and have outgrown fake drug kingpin tales. It's easy to see he is, who is. A Pop star who will panders his music to whomever will buy.

nah, the person who made the thread yesterday was a fan who pretty much said jaz is getting redundant with his content. at the end of the day you disagree with his opinion so no matter what is shown as examples will never be a good enough reason for you to accept his conclusion.
