Nah it just gives losers who who wouldn't amount to shit anyway a chance to feel like they're part of something.

It does have a negative effect on the uneducated and those who don't receive the love at home. But that's all forms of entertainment not just gangsta rap

It definitely has a negative effect. Should it have a negative effect? No. But does it manage to do so? Yes. Can't pretend it doesn't affect anyone just because they shouldn't let it affect them.

@ the photo of the kid that has a tatoo of the gun on his face.

What kind of music do you think he listens to?

It does.

Cats will deflect and justify all day about it though, cause it's so entrenched in hip hop culture and people don't want to come off as hypocritical.

Also, claiming there was violence in the community before gangsta rap as some sort of exoneration of it's negative impact is very faulty logic.

Yes it does..... All rappers now talk about is dope money sex and killin.

Parenting is the key but all theses parentless youth live by rap

The weird thing is that there were gangs in the Bronx just as Hip Hop was getting started. Africa Bambaattaa formed the Zulu Nation as a way for the youth to focus on music and Breakdancing, DJing, MCing and graffitti and to stop the violence. And it worked. The violence and the gang culture declined in New York because of the success fo Hip Hop. Peiople could battle through graffitti (who had the dopest whole car running through NYC) or MCing or B-Boying.

But now the rappers just rap about being in gangs, shooting each other and selling dope. It defeats the purpose of what Africa Bambaatta was trying to do when he organized Hip Hop into a culture.

how so ? there were so many youth gangs than it is now in LA, Chicago, & NYC before gangsta rap.

That would presuppose that youth gangs/gang culture was a direct result of gangsta rap and no one said that or even hinted at that. The question was: does gangsta rap have a negative effect on the youth? And I'm saying yes. Obviously yes.

Also gang violence has been down since the 2000's but gangsta rap also isn't as popular as it used to be either.

C'mon bruh.

If I eat Mcdonald's everyday then cut it back to every other day and lose some weight, does eating Mcdonald's still have a negative effect on my health?

This question is irrelevant. Gangsta rap did not start facial tattoos or tell people to tattoo guns on their face. Tattooing stupid shit on your face has nothing to do with gangsta rap, this is an argument used by racist cacs to demean hip hop and black people.

This is false. Crime and violence declined in every city across the US since the 90s however hip hop was not the reason for this in NYC. The reduction of crime in the city was due to government policies/actions (city level, federal level etc).

In fact in NYC, crime was reduced in the 90s, which coincides with the rise of gangsta rap. How do you explain that?

At the end of the day its all ENTERTAINMENT. Did cats trip when Joe Pesci was "acting like a gangster" in Goodfellaz? Did cats really think Al Pacino was putting his face in a mountain of blow and letting off rounds with no fucks? How many thought Brando was a real Don in Godfather? Mad cats been exposed I.e. Ross. They just tryna blame gangsta rap as why the youth is throwed off

I dont know bruh, the crips & bloods phenomenon spreaded pretty fast around the world. ..........I think rap aided in that...especially in neighborhoods that aint really no need to act gangsta.

@lethal5

I concur... 2 an extent doe. I came up in tha early 90s. Of course the 90s was when gangsta rap took off. If it wasnt g-rap wasnt really feeling it. But at the end of the day I saw and felt what was going on in the hood and than hurd Pac, Spice 1, CMW etc and was like "Even tho this shit trill this aint my life 4 me" I always had mad cats I was down with who banged and wanted me 2 be down n/h I was always try 2 be a leader doe

one thing bout music when it hits you feel no pain

white folks say it controls your brain

I know better than that, that's game
