I dont even listen to half these mixtapes. Thats why Lupe dont make em with original music no more

it should be counted in the overall assessment of an artist's status, but shouldnt hold as much weight as original material and albums. but some artist's best displays of lyrical ability and creativity are on mixtapes, and thats what counts anyway

it depends if the artist uses original beats for the mixtape or not. In Gucci's case, his mixtapes are basically albums. In Wayne's case, it's just a chance to hear him spittin on other niggaz shit

Of course they should count. Why wouldnt they, its still music from that artist. Sometimes they even make the songs better than the original, with better song structure than the original artist had. Mood Musik wasnt even that good, so thats a bad example to use.

I count them!! The difference with today is that Artist don't hold on to music like they use to, and instead they put it out on mixtapes. If a rapper from this day and age died the same age as Pac did, there would be no 10 years of unreleased music!! I don't count them towards the catalog exactly, but I base what I think of said rappers overall skill on catalog and mixtapes!!

Fuck a mixtape. Put your effort into the album thats gonna be put in store and eventually the only thing thats gonna matter. Nobody remembers mixtapes

No it should not count, just like you dont count stats from a player in pre season games.

How hard is it really to build on someones template, any monkey could do that. Creating classic and great music from scratch is the hardest thing to do imo. When's the last time you heard someone say, thats a classic mixtape or classic freestyle over someone elses beat. Aint nothing creative about jumping on someone elses beats

No such thing. Nobody will remember that shit in 10 years nor will it have any affect on his career.
