I think he is... I posted this in another thread about Cube.....

Ice Cube has dropped or been a part of these classic records... "Back-to-Back-to-Back...".

1.Straight outta Compton 1988 - NWA group member... CLASSIC!

2.Amerikkka's Most Wanted 1990 - solo... CLASSIC!

3.Kill AT Will 1990 - solo... This EP included the classic songs... "Jacking for Beats", "The Product" and "Dead Homies". Those three song right there were better than other niggas whole albums. lol... CLASSIC!

4.Death Certificate 1991- solo... which contains "No Vaseline" the best diss record ever IMO.... CLASSIC!

And if you really want to get picky with this shit... he helped write Eazy E's first album "Eazy Duz it"-1988... which is another Classic Album. That makes it what... 5 classic releases "Back-to-Back-to-Back-to-Back...." that he helped write or released as a solo artist. DAMN!!!!

I can't think of any other rap artist who has dropped this much Dope shit... "Back-to-Back-to-Back...".

Years later(1996) he dropped the album "Bow Down" with West Side Connection.... another Classic!!!! Damn!

Let's not forget Ice Cube wrote this classic back in 1987... this song pretty started the whole N.W.A/Ruthless string of hits.

Greatest, Naw.
SoCal has more luv for Eazy or Quik.
Def one of the WestCoast greatests tho and I'm not even a big Cube fan, can't deny the music tho.
Cube is irrelevant on these streets, while other WC rappers will forever play on the blocks, even Bone Thugs are more favored out here and they from Cleveland.

ok, fair and true point. but you're talking about popularity, and Cube makes up much more for his lack of popularity in other categories than Eazy or Quik. I know that Cube is far from being popular. Most of his greatest songs aren't anthems or hood classics, but they're still classics. I know that "It Was a Good Day" isn't as popular as "California Love" or "Tha Crossroads", but it still gets bumped regularly.

wow and lol. nice drop, i didn't even consider much of that. I always knew that Cube was the heart of NWA and for that reason, he had an integral hand in giving birth to the Ruthless/Deathrow/Aftermath/Shady/G Unit dynasty somehow. That's major points on influence. And yeah, he has always been a top notch writer. Him and the D.O.C.

Niggas is sleepin...

Popularity is part of it tho, not all of course.

Eazy is no where near the greatest but I think Quik has got Cube. Being a producer/rapper he has been dropping heat since the late 80's and his discography and talents are very underrated. He's been fairly consistent over the years too. I won't get into specifics but in terms of West Coast Audio Quik has got this. Quik has way more bangers and classics that I prefer to Cubes.

"It was a Good Day" does NOT get bumped regularly, still a classic tho.

Cube makes movies, Quik makes music.

Fact of the matter is I don't agree with him being heralded as the Greatest WC Rapper of all Time.

I will say that I was speaking strictly about Westcoast rapping. I'm not sure how DJ Quik being a producer fits into that, but I could be wrong.

True, I was going to use a different word but I couldn't think of it. But you are right.

I think that's unfair. Cube may not be as prolific as a rapper today, but his earlier resume speaks for itself. Though if I'm right, you do make a good point that Cube as a rapper is not very much relevant today, so he bites the bullet in terms of longevity. But is DJ Quik any more relevant (note: all my questions are honest questions and are not rhetorical)? I say this because I don't know too much about Quik, though I know that he also is a legend (even if Eiht got the best of him in that battle, but that's debatable heh).

To be honest, you said a lot but I still don't see too much hard evidence to suggest that DJ Quik is greater than Ice Cube. You could be right though. I need to get up on my Quik shit to see for myself.

Yes I know that, and yes I referred to the whole Pac issue in my op. No disrespect to Pac, but in terms of said criteria, I think Cube bests him. Do you disagree? If so, why?

I think cube and pac are beast on the mic...but IMO Pac has better material...plain and simple.....not real complicated for my ears.......they both had social and political as well as gangster and party songs so I put em both in the same emcee catagory....But Cube doesn't have SO MANY TEARS, STRAIGHT BALLIN, LIFE GOES ON, DEAR MAMMA, etc on his resume...and I thnk Cube has at least two classic albums, but PAC was bringng heat non-stop...this ain't from no PAC stan but a HUGE Rakim fan

1. If it's strictly rapping there are other WC rappers out there who are better than Cube and I'm talking beyond the 90's, all across the board; lyrics, flow, etc. U might just not be up on all thats West Coast. I'm from LA and prefer East Coast NY shit most the time tho.

His production skills add to the overall impact of his songs. Songs which appear on his rap albums and attribute to his overall greatness as a rapper. Maybe if Quik didn't rap on his own production so much I wouldn't reference it at all and my opinion of him might be different because as we all know u can be great rapper, but with the wrong production no one gives a fuck i.e. Canibus.

2.Cube has actually had a lot of longevity in the game, moreso than alot of other rappers, he just transitioned into Hollywood Movies, no problem with that. He ain't relevant in Hiphop no more tho unless u wanna talk about his classics.
Quik is way more relevant in the streets, Believe Dat.
The rapping and the production that goes along with his songs are way more representative of the West Coast and what we regard as Classic and real West Coast Music.
IDK much about Quik either slept on him for a bit and still haven't peeped all of his music, good amount tho.
LOL idk about Eight getting the best of him tho.

3.I'm not trying to provide evidence. His body of work speaks for itself. They're two different artists tho and the music aint the same considering its West Coast.

Cube > Pac

And yeah Cube is the West Coast Goat. He's not really the best at any one thing, but he's had an epic career and dropped classics.

I mean Cube had classic records when I was in 5th grade (I'm 29) and dropped another great album a decade later. Not too many musicians in any genre have done that.

This is back when niggas used to "Flow"... ride the fuck outta the beat... not that wack shit niggas be doing now on the mic.
