The internet has become the equalizer by giving the obscure musical acts an outlet to a potential fan base (e.g. Jay Electronica in 2009). A lot of time more enlightened rap music comes across as clunky or preachy and isn't as sonically pleasing. We just need more artists who are skilled and have the ability to relate to a wider audience than pure hip hop fans.
