Fuck Complex first and foremost but with that said I'll give the devil their due, that was actually not a bad list. I don't agree with who they had in certain years (2001 belonged to Ja Rule, 2004 belonged to Kanye, 2006 belonged to TI, 2010 belong to Rick Ross) but I can't argue against it for the most part.

I think in the 80-90's they get a pass because the best rapper was usually the most successful(hottest). In the 00's with the exception of a few early ones, they butchered it. In no year was Minaj the best rapper on the planet. Drake winning as many times as he did is absurd. They seem to have "hottest rapper" and "best confused with them citing the amount of singles these rappers have been on and not the quality of the feature. Basically, fuck Complex....

I actually agree with everything on this list except 2011, 2014, and 2015. They are skewing 2011 / 2012 in Drake's direction because Take Care dropped late 2011 and we still felt the effects of that shit in early 2012. But Watch the Throne dropped in August 2011, and that joint, as well as the build up to it virtually eclipsed OVO movement until his album actually dropped that winter. Hov did the heavy lyrical lifting for that.

So I'd give 2011 to Jay.

2014, fuck that white washed pop soda lookin ass, flaming garbage juice. I was riffin' on these boards every fucking day about that shit from Macklemore winning that bullshit ass grammy, to Iggy Azaelia's ascension, to Young Thug and his troll faggotry.

If Nicki Minaj won that shit, it's only because 2014 as a whole was weak and a year of Ls for Hip-Hop in general. J Cole brought up the rear with Forest Hill Drive, but I dont think that was strong enough to give him the year.

I'd feel more comfortable with just giving it to Macklemore because at least we could use the scar on our history as a testament to where we NEVER want to ever be again.

As for 2015? That shit was Future's year. Fuck you mean? At least the nigga writes his own shit, no matter how incoherent it can be.
