Classic albums vs. Classic Material

I dont even really fuck wit Krit music but I know niggas that do and say but he dont got no classic albums. Shit sounds crazy to me.

Some mixtapes are as formulaic as albums too with the same features and producers. I feel that mixtapes cheapens an artist. Only new rappers and vets trying to reestablish themselves should be dropping mixtapes. Since most people overlook mixtapes those great/classic songs don't get the love it deserves because it was used on mixtapes. Since mixtapes "don't count" it hurts the artists overall catalog.

To me you have to be of a certain skill level to make classic albums. Above average rappers can never make a classic album to me, because they will never have the lyrical potency and content needed for a classic album.

You need to be of a certain tier level to even be considered for classic status IMO.

... And no a mixtape isn't an album and will never be considered an album. And yes, they should be considered less important because you're not willing to put in the work and place your brand on the mixtape music.

You're kind of taking the easy way out. If it's wack, "hey it's free, you can't hold that against me" If it's dope, "it's not mixtape, it's a piece of art, it's a free album." You can't have it both ways.

Ehhhh... IMO NO ONE should drop mixtapes. If you want to get on, drop a couple of free SONGS, but free mixtapes are just too much IMO.

Like you said, it cheapens the artist too much.

Demo tapes were like mixtapes.

You guys are buggin.

How we're supposed if an artist is trash or not?

We can't go by garbage singles that are trying to make him succeed on the charts.

I don't think when judging the newer generation that a mixtape should be as substantial as an album. Both should be judged using the same standards. There's legendary artists that never dropped a mixtape, but these new artists are making and dropping albums.
