I get what you saying IMO it depends on the person.

Some people would rather have the death penalty and get that shit over with instead being locked up until they die for whatever reason.

Some people don't mind being locked up and just want to live no matter where they are at or the conditions.

So if a person really wants to live no matter what give them death and get them outta here because that is actual punishment for them. If the person would rather die to get the shit over with give them a life sentence cause that is a true punishment for them. Just my opinion.
