Those who are thirsty for publicity have turned it into something that is cliche, forced, and inauthentic. You have a lot of cornballs, for lack of a better term, in the game who act like middle school children. Because of that it looks less like competition and more like childish exercise and crab mentality between simple minded or overly sensitive/emotional people who catch feelings easily or are starving for attention.

good post and let me add that battles went from proving who is the best to a publicity stunt to sell records. to some extent that has always been the case but now its just way more obvious than ever before.

I love a good battle but it's wack that it's so gimmicky now, 50 contributed most to that imo altho he was involved in one of the most enjoyable beefs ever.

I love battles as a matter of fact Ima bout to create a tape with the best diss tracks, but rappers today arent built for it, and the battles have become less about hiphop and more about other shit....and so much shit is staged now its hard to tell a real battle from niggas just trying to get a buzz

People either overrate or underrate battles too much. If niggas would just talk about the battle itself, and not all the extra shit like it's supposed to end careers... it'd be better. On the other hand, fans of weaker rappers underrate battles because they know that if talent was a requirement to make music, alot of rappers would disappear.
