C/s this thread. I've been saying it for years: I dont care what R.Kelly/Michael Jackson/Chris Brown/Jay-Z does outside the booth, thats his business. Make good songs in the booth and your ok with me

Since when did a person's personal life come into play with the quality of their work. It seems like all I see on this forum is topics about Jay's religion/afflication, Joe Budden's escapades, or Nas' divorce.

Since when did the circus OUTSIDE of the music become more important than the music itself?

I have to ask: for all the fervor people say about how "they are their own person", "they don't follow other people's lives", ect ect....why are there so many H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E-S on this board?

The divorces, cheating or anything like that is personal and has no business in music for fans. (unless it interferes and we wonder why)

The whole Jay-Z thing comes to thinking that he is working for some occult and brain washing kids listening to rap. If he does have any ties with some strange society then everything in his persona and career will be looked at and seen as bait. You gotta see that situation, no matter if it's false or not. Because like you said, "the music itself", his music would be subliminal. (along with hand signals etc)

Also their history needs to be known some what. Like these "gangsta" rappers who claim to bang this, bang that, shoot this, shoot that. They gotta be reppin' on the real, if it's fake why listen to someone selling a cartoon character?

This shit is so similar to other shit in life, people's quality work, but when found out for something personal or anything they might lose their credibility or job. Shit is universal to know someones background, it's never gonna end.

I'm really feelin this thread.

I think Jay's situation is more complex then the other rappers scenarios.. Jay is acussed of mixing his beliefs with his music. When you tie your personal life with your music career, that'll create problems for the listeners.. People will fill un-comfortable when listening, or viewing his shit.

After listening to Jay address the Mason shit, i've learned to (somewhat..) respect him. He is who he is.. but some shit he could just keep to himself, without forcing everybody else to see things his way.

This is just how people act on message boards. People like to wild out when they log on. Plus we have more access to information on the web than we would when chilling with our friends or in the car listening to the radio.

Talk to hip hop fans outside message boards and the attitude changes. A lot of fans outside the 'net probably haven't heard 99% of the news about rappers' lives. Probably no one will initiate a conversation about Rick Ross being a CO, Jay-Z, Nas and Kelis, etc. when you talk to them live.

Since NWA said Fuck the Police, then Trapped Got Vice Presidential recognition through verbal attacks, Then Eazy Dying of Aids and Pac getting Shot cemented the Rappers Personal Life being discussed in the media and how the fans related to it all music included as a whole...

I am surprised the connection did not happen sooner as most MC's Rapped about things they Knew in their community and life...

I made a thread about this a while ago, niggas know way too much behind the scene shit. It's essentially GOSSIPING, that's why i don't knock rappers for being private; fans have become so bitch made.

in the case of nas as i have said b4 it is becoming blaringly obvious that his home life has been affecting his work, same with old dirt..its sad and annoying when an artist u love allows crack rock or the crack of a womans ass 2 demote there artwork..never been a dickryder in a rappers pocket.

Divorces and cheating are not relevant. Rape, molestation, domestic abuse, killing, etc. is all relevant. I don't listen to artists who perpetuate such distasteful acts. I can't stop them, since I don't know them, so the best thing I can do is talk with my money and use the information to choose who I support.

Beyond the Music... ppl wanna get the indepth of their favorite artist which will raise or lower them in their eyes as well as other fans. Of course it takes away from the music... it's a terrible distraction and the art is lost in the mix

If your favorite artist raped your mother, would you still listen to his music?

Their personal lives should never come ahead of their quality of music... However, i think you do have to realize the points of hip hop forum boards and things of this nature. They are dedicated to speaking on things like this... almost hte gossip sites of hip hop. YOu cant forget that... I'm hoping in your outside the internet conversations of hip hop are not about divorces and things of that nature.... which i'm srue theyre not...

However a lot of stuff thgat happens in ones personal life can translate to their music. I'm sorry but the Rick Ross thing and lying about being a CO, that affects his music, Jay Z imagery in music videos and lines in music, creating discussions on hip hop and religion... i got no beef with that.

Now the whole... so and so wsa out shopping with so and so yea that shit is mad lame... but again my man this is a hip hop forum board...

Fuck No and before the digital age we still judged rappers based on their Lives. I Know that some of the Kats against this type of judgement are only positioned so because their favorites do not stand up against scrutiny...
