Where does CAMP LO rank as a group/duo in Hip Hop?

I'm not sure where Camp Lo ranks among Hip Hop groups/duos. Their style was so unique and ahead of it's time that I'm not sure they can be ranked amongst or compared to any other group/duo.

You are very correct. But a lot of these artist are so high or drunk in the studio that they don't know who has their music or not so they can't stop the leaks. And a lot of them use the leaks as free promo.

Each deal is different but TLC is the best selling female group ever and they were getting .34 cents per album. The label may give you 12 points (12%) but after they recoup what they spent on making and marketing the album the artist may end up with 3 points. For example... major labels...

I'm glad that everyone is so opinionated. That is the start to cleaning up the music game and getting songs out. Well, I'm ready to start my daily grind. I'll catch everyone later. And, thanks for the debate.

I agree with what you're saying about cutting cost to produce a song but not to many artists trying to make either know what we know or want to quick buck and don't want to spend the time to learn anything. i don't like Soulja Boys music but I respect his grind as a businessman. he used the...

You are right about label credibility, but fans don't see the Wizard of Oz behind the curtain. They only see the artist so the artist's credibility is what's hurt. and as for Timbo. He had Sista, Missy and Jodeci in a house in upstate New York for close to a year developing a sound but labels...

Paying for a mixtape slot is really the cheapest way to get exposure but it takes a long time as well. Even showcases charge artists to perform (which you should never do). On the real you have to make good music and go directly to the fan and pass the middleman. If the fans like your music DJs...

We have an in-house producer/engineer and own a studio so that cuts down on the cost a lot. But, the big money comes in when it's time to promote and market a song because everyone wants to be paid to push your song... especially commercial radio.

That's right. One of my artist K.I. is buzzing on the internet right now and even though his debut album doesn't drop until February he still gets $1,000+ for a feature depending on the artist that wants him.

On the real you can get a good video made from some one like Jay Onez or Edwin Escobar for $5,000 and it will look professional. But, major labels want known directors with track records. Labels rent top tier equipment, no one shot digital HD hand helds for major labels.

Nicki Minaj - Right Through Me - $100,000+ Eminem - Love The Way You Lie - $175,000 Trey Songz - Your Side of The Bed - $125,000 Just to name a few... go to the set of a major video and look at all of the people that have to be paid and the equipment that has to be rented to produce a video...

This is the reason why artist get upset. They offer free mixtapes, do fans have to steal regular albums too? And, a label recoupes all of that money back before an artist sees any royalties at all. Nicki Minaj's "Right Through Me" video cost $175,00 alone.

It's a catch 22 situation. Artists should definitely put out better product but it will never happen as long as consumers accept the B.S. that's out there now. Labels, big and small, are businesses and we care about profits and losses so if fans buy crap we will continue to offer crap. You have...

    Well, I'll put it to you like this: Known Producer = $15,000 Studio Time = $8,000 Engineer = $2500 Marketing & Promotions = $50,000 PR = $20,000 Video = $100,000 Transportation = $8,000 TOTAL = $203,500 for a Rap or R&B artist on a major label that isn't in the top 20 on the Billboard...
